OWA has been asked several times in recent months if we have any recommendations when it comes to providing website users with a more engaging interactive experience. Specifically, this has been in relation to presenting videos, presentation slides and academic or vocational course assessments on webpages.
We have been happy to help. Our recommendation is to use H5P – an open and currently free technology that allows users to create, share and reuse interactive content.
A flexible and integrated solution
H5P stands for HTML5 package and allows the creation of widgets such as quizzes, presentations and interactive videos. It provides a nice, easy-to-use interface and requires no deep technical knowledge to get started.
What makes H5P stand out is the flexibility and tight integration with some of the most widely used content management systems, including Drupal, Wordpress and Joomla. All you need to do is install the module with a little configuration and away you go!
H5P is an open and currently free technology that allows users to create, share and reuse interactive content.
Extend with APIs
There are over 90 reusable H5P libraries as well as powerful APIs for interactive content. APIs may be required for reporting, storing results and saving submissions.
For example, H5P can be used for course assessments and can be set up in a way where the user proceeds through a series of presentation slides or question sets to reach the end goal. It’s also possible to create custom certificates containing a pass mark.
We see H5P as an excellent option when it comes to interactive content authoring. If you’re looking for a free, easy-to-use package with the ability to import content between development environments this is almost certainly the tool for you.
